Couples + Marriage Counseling
Counseling for Couples to Find that Happy Place Again
I help couples find their happy place - whether it’s to deepen an already strong relationship, or to repair after things have gotten tough. When I see couples, neither person is “my client” - the relationship is. Both partners have an opportunity to learn about themselves and how they’re “showing up” in the relationship.
I meet couples where they’re at - creating an environment for both partners to express their fears and frustrations.
In therapy-speak, I use varied approaches including Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), The Gottman Method, and Internal Family Systems.
What Types of Couples I See
I’ve worked with couples as young as their early twenties navigating early adulthood to late sixties juggling retirement, health challenges, and grandparenting.
What Issues I Assist With
Ambivalence and low satisfaction, infidelity, differing levels of sexual desire, feeling like “roommates” instead of connected partners, or feeling disconnected.
Do I need to be married to go to couples counseling?
You certainly don’t need to be married to see a Marriage and Family Therapist!
I welcome all kinds of identities including LGBTQ+ folx, interracial, interfaith, intercultural, nonmonogamous/kink/poly, etc. I work with diverse relationship stages: dating, engaged, Living Apart Together (LAT), married, divorced or divorcing, learning to co-parent through and after divorce, etc.
What makes you specific as a marriage counselor?
Marriage and Family Therapists are set apart from other therapists by the systemic training required to hold the license. Unlike many other therapists in Illinois with other letters after their name, MFTs are specifically looking for wider relationship and environmental dynamics at play.
